Information About the Evangelist Cottage

The historic home at Portsmouth Camp where preachers and sogn evangelists are housed
during camp meetings is known as the Evangelist Cottage. Recently renovated, it
includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and large farmer's porch.

Scheduling Information

The Cottage is available from the third week in April through the end of October,
primarily for full-week use. If a week is still open three weeks before the requested
date it may be used for less than a full week, but not for fewer than two consecutive
nights. One-week rentals run Saturday to Saturday with check-in at 4pm
and check-out by 11am.

Guest Agreement

As an applicant for use of the Evangelist’s Cottage, I have read and agree to the following
conditions for myself and all members of my party:
1. I understand that Portsmouth Campground is a conservative Christian holiness campground,
and agree to conduct myself at all times in a manner that respects and reflects the mission of the Camp.
2. I will abstain from alcohol or smoking in the Cottage or on the Camp grounds.
3. I will never leave children unattended while on the grounds.
4. I am responsible for placing trash in the available dumpster on the camp grounds.
5. I agree to leave the Cottage clean and ready for the next guests.
6. I will report any damages to the cabin and accept responsibility for repairs.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Evangelist Cottage at Portsmouth Camp Meeting is to provide an opportunity
for followers of Christ to experience rest, reflection, and spiritual renewal in a beautiful and
tranquil setting.

Recommendation Letter

Because the cottage is located in a conservative Christian Holiness campground,
all guests must submit the enclosed form completed by their local church pastor
or Portsmouth Camp Board member. The form is included either in the application
download or the flyer.


A deposit of $300 is required to reserve the cottage. Balance is due two weeks
prior to use.


Guests will provide their own linen (sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, etc.)
Dishes, glasses, pots and pans, vacuum, and cleaning products will be provided
by Portsmouth Camp Meeting.


Guests are responsible for leaving the cottage clean and orderly; otherwise,
a fee of $100 will be assessed. Guests must remove all their trash.
Dumpster will be made available to dispose of trash.

Suggested Guest Donation

Off Season
(April through third week in June, and first full week after Labor Day
through October):
$550/week; $100/day.

In Season
(fourth week in June through week of Labor Day):
$850/week; $150/day.

Pastors and Missionaries may stay at half suggested donation.
